I figured I should probably update since I haven't done so for awhile. Last Wednesday, mom called and said that someone asked her if she wanted to ride to Atlanta with them for the weekend. I told her I was busy all night Friday and all afternoon/evening on Sunday, but if shw wanted to come, she could. I made my mother's week. Anyways, I asked my boss for Friday off since mom was getting into town in the morning (leaving home at 2 AM). I had a nice day Friday (sleeping in!) and then going with mom to lunch and a movie. I finally can cross one movie off of my list of movies I want to see (Lemony Snicket's... good movie). Now I only have 3 or 4 left... I dropped mom off at the hotel and came back and went to KKY's first degree. I GOT A LITTLE BROTHER!!!! His name is Brian Johns. He's cool. I'm looking forward to this candidate semester since not only do I have a little brother, but both of my bigs have a little brother as well. Plus, my friend Josh is a candidate (and his big brother is my big brother as well). I'll get to spend a lot of time with all of them this semester. How fun. Its weird having people ask to interview me and it not being the other way around. My first interview (with Brian) should be sometime this week. I'm excited. Saturday we woke up with all the ice around. Mom and I laughed at everyone trying to open their cars up, and had fun getting the ice off of mine as well. We did a lot of scrapbooking, and then came back to Tech in the late afternoon so I could pick up pep band pants from Rachel. The people mom rode up with called and asked if she minded staying til Monday, and since she already had Monday off, she agreed. Sunday we came back to Tech and went to the women's basketball game. Then I had to leave mom in my room while I went to TBS first degree. Got back kinda late, but played cards with mom and Josh. Josh isn't afraid to learn card games from my family like Mary Beth is... :-D I found out on Monday that I got into Georgia Tech Lorraine! YAY! I'm going to FRANCE this summer!

Sorely Needed Update

Yeah, I haven't been writing in my own livejournal much lately, but I have been reading my friends pages. Not really anything to write about lately.

I had a good day today. My boss let me take tommorrow off even though I asked for the day off just one day prior. Someone from church invited mom to ride up her with them tommorrow (today), and they are leaving PH at 2 AM (so... 40 minutes from now). Anyways, it is just easier if I sleep in tommorrow and see her when she gets here. I'm not complaining. Anyways, I worked for a little over an hour when my boss invited me to go to this panel discussion on GIS systems (how you relate latitude and longitude and the problems individual governmental entities are facing). I got in free since I was a student, so it was kinda cool. It was at the Bank of America building. My boss was saying that we would just have to ride MARTA from the 5 Point Station, since that is the only place we could park anywhere near, so I was thinking where on Tech campus I could park with my hangtag. I ended up just driving the both of us and leaving my car in the deck on west campus, then taking a Stinger to the other side of campus. It proved my point though that I can't go anywhere on campus without running into someone I know. As I was getting off the bus, Hannah Taylor was getting on, so I congratulated her on accepting her bid. The meeting started off on the 52nd floor of the building, which is really close to the top. WONDERFUL view. Anyways, the room had accidently been double booked for the morning, so we had to move half the meeting downstairs to the 37th (in a row...) floor. Still a decent view, but the confrence room we were was on the inside of the building. That meeting ended about noon, so we had to head back to the TMC. On the bus ride back to west campus, Christina LoBracco was on the bus, and was joined by Steven Douglas, Matt Inglese, and Becca. Lots of people I know for being on campus long enough to take the bus to the other side. Anyways, once we got back to the TMC it was time for a meeting on managing traffic for preplanned special events. That was cool. Everyone from our building was sitting in a conference room that overlooks the control room of georgia navigator, watching a screen and listening to the speaker talk. The first speaker was at the Virginia Department of Transportation. That wasn't too horribly interesting, though it was kinda cool to think that they were formulating traffic signals to deal with holiday traffic around shopping malls. I was completely impressed, however, with the guys from Los Angelas who were talking. It makes me want to move to LA when I graduate to become a traffic engineer for preplanned special events (they only have ~4500 per YEAR). It was kinda funny though cause by the end of the meeting 3/4 of the people had left our room. Though it was because of a dual-fatality accident on I-285 and then another accident that shut down 7/8 lanes of the connector. For awhile, it was taking close to an hour to go 10 miles through downtown. Thats just crazy. So people need to drive. If this is how they drive in regular weather, I hate to see what is going to happen Friday night/Saturday morning. I'm glad I don't have to go in with nasty weather conditions. Ah, the perks of being a co-op student. And the fact that my boss knows my mother is in town. I took my lunch at 2:45 and then only had to work for 45 minutes after I got back. Tonight was cool. I thoroughly enjoyed CCF (as always) and was even more entralled with our win over WAKE FOREST. So crazy. But we won. I now don't completely doubt their abilities. Anyways, I am going to finish getting ready for bed, then call mom to tell her we won. She needs to hear my cheerful voice to remember why she is getting up so early on a Friday morning... NIGHT!

TRFKATCR

So I just got back this afternoon from "The Retreat Formerly Known As The Christmas Retreat". It was one awesome experience. Other than playing on the offensive line for the Flamingo Football game (girls vs. guys, guys can only use one leg) and totally beating up on boys, there was a lot said that got me thinking. TRFKATCR is known as the love retreat. We talked about the different types of love: family, erotic, friends, God, and how each is supposed to fit into our lifes. I figured I'd share a few things with y'all that I found really important.

Family (stergo): The first type of love we experience is from our family. Not all of us have had wonderful family experiences in the past, but yet, we have a lot to learn about love from them. We are almost doomed to show love or neglect to show love to others in the same way that our parents do. Which means, we need to reflect on the ways of our parents to determine what we need to think about to become better people to love others. We can pray and work towards improving anything that we think needs improving in our lifes.

Erotic (eros): Erotic love is not bad. God created us as creatures who need to feel erotic love with another human being. At the same time, He made it something special that we should only share with one person. TJ and Braden (interns) came up with the Top Ten Things Girls Deserve in Guys. I figure I'll share the list.

A girl needs a guy:
10. who works towards good relationships with his family and friends
9. who is supporting, encouraging, and affirming
8. that God wants us to be with
7. who likes her more on the inside than the outside
6. who is committed to her and who will be her best friend
5. who doesn't define himself by her or his relationship with her
4. who respects her
3. who loves her selflessly
2. who is a spiritual leader, seeks God with all his heart, and glorifys God in everything
1. who loves God more than her

I agree with all of these. And as TJ and Braden said, "Girls, don't settle for anything less, cause you deserve all this". A Godly relationship is one that glorifies God, and is the most sucessful relationship there is.

Friend (philia): While it is very good and healthy to form relationships with members of the opposite sex, it is very important to have some strong philia relationships with friends of the same sex. No guy will ever be able to truthfully say to a girl "I know just how you feel" and the same vice-versa. Also, you shouldn't invest things emotionally in someone of the opposite sex that you wouldn't tell that person's future spouse. Instead, its good to have some friends who are going through the same exact things you are to share with. The love for this person should be so strong that they can tell you the things you don't want to hear and you know they are telling you just because they love you and want you to become a better person.

God (agape): We are called to show each other the same type of pure, unconditional love that God has shown us. Agape love is perfectly demonstrated through God, and we should strive to show agape love to everybody. Not just our family, friends, and significant other, but EVERYBODY we come in contact with. Its a love that never fails. No matter what has happened to us, God loves us more than we can imagine.

Tammie did something with us at the end of the weekend that was very powerful to all of us. She had us all close our eyes and think about the love we have for our family and they have for us. Then she said to think about the love we have for our friends. Then the love we have for the people in the room with us. Then the love we have for our nation, thinking back to the passion we felt with 9-11 even if we weren't affected by it directly. Finally, the love we have for this world, and the compassion we feel for the people affected by the Tsunami. Then she had us all get up, and hug the person next to us, whether we knew them or not, with the love we feel for everything. If that wasn't enough, she told us to put our hands on the other person's face, look directly into their eyes, and say "I love you". I had never met the person next to me before this morning, but at the same time, it wasn't strange at all.

I was about to write a live-journal entry the other day about the word love and how it is so underused. Its the truth. You don't have to reserve the word love for eros love. Its an everyday word. After the philia session, we walked around the lake in groups saying what we loved about each other, and then stopped at some point to tell God what we loved about him. If you ever get a chance to tell someone what you love about them, it is one of the best things in the world. Warm-fuzzies all the way!!!

Until next time...

I LOVE YOU

It drives me crazy. I think I have a small case of ADD-- I can't sit still AT ALL. It just doesn't work. Most of the time. Including now. ARRRG!

Basketball and Day 9

Yay for basketball... such a fun sport!

I actually did well tonight, and made some shots. What was really cool though is, after we had been playing for awhile, these two girls came up and asked if they could join. Of course we said yes. Then we found out they were both freshman on the basketball team. No 5- Jill and No 43- Chioma. I came back and looked them up on Ramblinwreck.com to find out that they both scored in the double digits in their last game. I am pretty sure that the two of them started. It was kinda crazy. We had fun though, and they are possibly going to come out and play with us again. After they left, we decided that the Branch Barks would "sponsor" the girls basketball team and go out to their games. I realize that I sat through half the home games last year and didn't find them all that entertaining, but if I know someone, it makes it better, right?

Anyways... I'm off to bed...

Day 9:
Don’t stop changing.
Rearrange your room. Try a new food. Change is good.

How true is that. I have definately made some changes in the way I relate to people this year, and its made a world of difference!
